Designing Our Entrance Hall.

Decisions, decisions...

As some of you will know I've been trying to decide on colours to add to the plain (and dreaded) Magnolia our new house has ALL OVER. I have finally settled on a colour for the hall, stairs and landings, and though many of you will shy away in disgust, remember I am not planning on painting every single wall, just adding splashes of colour here and there. So what is this controversial colour you ask... orange! Granted it is not always a popular colour choice, but I figure that you don't spend time in these areas, you just pass through, so it will probably be ok. Right? *she says with fingers crossed*.

Starting with the hall (if you can call the tiny irregularly shaped space an actual hall), I have added two verticle stripes (one slightly larger than the other) near where the stairs start and got hubby to put up my ornate silver coloured mirror. The shoe rack has been placed next to the gas meter cupboard and while it doesn't fit perfectly because of the radiator, it will at least keep the shoes tidy.

I have also bought a few accessories - an acrylic letter holder (so no more piles of letters strewn about or left on the floor under the letterbox), an acrylic pen pot (because we can never find a pen in this house when we need one, even though we must have a gazillion hanging about), a gorgeous orange bamboo bowl to house our keys (so we're not searching for them at the last minute on a busy morning) and an orange door mat (that will hopefully catch some of the dirt that hubby and the kids seem to always find and drag in).

I still think I need a splash of colour in that corner by the door, so I think I will keep my eyes our for a curtain or some voile to hang there decoratively. I also need to find a lamp shade or light fitting that will fit in with the new decor.

Next will be the first and second floor landings so watch this space for updates.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog!

My first post brings both excitement and trepidation. An online presence means an online audience and that can result in two types of people: the first - welcoming with open arms and friendly emoticons, the second - the keyboard warriors who hide behind their computer screens and criticise everyone and everything. I hope more of the first will be visitors here, as well as my other online outlets *fingers crossed*.

As it says in my profile, I am a stay-at-home mum that enjoys most home activities (except cleaning) and I simply love my life. I enjoy cooking and baking, although wouldn't call myself a gormet chef or master baker; the usual meat and two veg followed by a yummy treat or two is definitely more my level. However, I'm happy to share some recipes here with you should you like to know what's going on in my kitchen.

Among my favourite crafts are crochet and card making, although I have recently decided to branch out into mixed media and felting. I like to make anything that will help beautify my home so I try to adapt to different crafts to suit each project. Again, I will share these projects with you all here and maybe even the odd tutorial if it's popular enough.

We have just moved house so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to start not only this blog but a channel on YouTube, as well as my new Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram so you can keep up to date with all the goings on around here (click the links below to visit each).

With a busy husband, a teenage daughter, a toddler, a household to run, a new home to decorate, and the possibility of a new business starting, life can be quite chaotic (hence the name) but I really believe that by sharing the madness it will somehow curb the crazy *she says hopefully* 😆 so if you're willing to try to tame the chaos with me I hope to see you here again for my next post.

Bye for now,
Catherine 💋
